The agreement is signed
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a cooperation agreement with the High Council of Justice of Ukraine to implement the country's transparent procedures for the appointment of judges and bringing them to justice, the press service of the Ministry of Justice reports.
February 4, 2013 an agreement was signed by the Head of USAID Project “Fair, accountable, independent and responsible judiciary in Ukraine” David Vaughn and Chairman of the High Council of Justice Oleksandr Lavrynovych.
As part of the agreement, the United States Agency for International Development pledged to provide expert assistance to Ukraine to solve complex tasks required to achieve the expected results.
Specifically, the agreement provides for the study of international experience in the legal regulation of appointment of judges and bringing them to justice. They plan to improve the national legal and institutional framework for accountability and integrity of judges, so that eventually they meet international standards and take into account the recommendations of Ukrainian and international experts.
In addition, agreement provides expert advice to develop the strategic plan of the High Council of Justice, assessment of HCJ needs as a constitutional body responsible for the formation of the judicial system in Ukraine in connection with possible constitutional amendments, and therefore – changes in its structure and functions.
The protocol of cooperation is in action up to September 2016.
