The British ministers were banned to wear Apple Watch due to fears that they can be hacked by the Russian spies, Forbes.RU reports quoting The Telegraph.
According to edition’s data, some ministers in the David Cameron’s government, including Minister of Justice Michael Gove, wore such watches. Nevertheless, the new Prime Minister Teresa May took the decision to ban the wearing of such a watch. It was caused by fears that they can be used as the bugging devices. “The Russians attempt to hack everything”, the edition's source stated.
In the publication, it is noted that this news came as the result of messages about the actions of Russian hackers in western countries. In particular, they were charged with the receipt of confidential letters of the Democratic National Congress as well as theft of medical documents of athletes from WADA base. In May 2016, the Federal Service of Protection of the Constitution of Germany stated that the Russian intelligence services could be behind the large-scale attack on the computer system of the lower house of FRG parliament in 2015.
In the Kremlin, these charges were denied many times. As Reuters notes in regard of hackers and countries, suspected of the organization of hacker attacks, USA repeatedly took punitive measures, including sanctions, as one high-ranking US official told, the White House considers other counter measures against Russia, however he did not clarify which one.
