Roscomnadzor (Federal Supervision Agency for Information Technologies and Communications) ordered foreign companies, which work as news aggregators on the territory of Russia, to register the Russian legal entity. Otherwise, the corporations will have to exit the market, RIA News reports quoting Izvestiya newspaper.
On January 1, 2017, the law on the specifics of distribution of information by news online aggregators, the traffic of which exceeds million users per 24 hours, comes into force. According to the law, the owners of news aggregators should check the accuracy of significant public information before its distribution and remove it as per the order of the Roscomnadzor.
The changes also apply to the largest market players, Google and Bing, because their traffic exceeds one mission people per day.
“In case if the owner is a foreigner, he is given three months for registration of the legal entity on the territory of Russia”, the edition of the official representative of Roscomnadzor Vadim Ampelonsky quotes.
Despite the fact that Google has the legal entity in Russia – Google LLC, the advertising services, but not the informational services, are specified as its main activities. That is why Google will have to change registration data of Google LLC or create a new company.
