According to preliminary estimates, the volumes of oil production in the United States surpassed the figures of Saudi Arabia and Russia.

U.S. became the global leader in oil production for the first time in 45 years, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration, korrespondent.net reports.

"This year, the United States probably topped Russia and Saudi Arabia, becoming the largest crude oil producer in the world", the report said.

At the same time, the United States noted that these conclusions are based on preliminary estimates.

"For the first time in more than two decades, in February, the crude oil production in U.S. exceeded its production in Saudi Arabia. In June and August, the United States topped the Russian Federation in terms of crude oil production for the first time since February 1999", the document says.

Experts of U.S. Energy Information Administration predict that U.S. will produce more oil than Saudi Arabia and Russia, during this and the next years.

"The oil price decrease in mid-2014 led to the fact that US producers limited their costs and temporarily reduced oil production. However, after rising prices in early 2016, the investment and production began to grow. At the same time, the Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia have maintained a relatively stable level of oil production growth in recent years", they summed up.

The United States was the global leader in oil production for most of the twentieth century and until 1973, after which they lost it to USSR and then to Saudi Arabia.

Previously it was expected that U.S. would be able to become the global leader in oil production in 2019.
Reportedly, for the second time in history, U.S. will open the oil reserve. Between 2018 and 2025, U.S. intends to sell 58 million barrels of oil from strategic reserves.
