Special Representative of U.S. Department of State for Ukraine Kurt Walker considers that the gas price increase for population will contribute to the reform of the energy sector in the country.
According to him, taking this step, Kyiv start structural reforms of the energy sector in Ukraine and the whole economy.
“It was necessary to do as this sector is not so stable, as it was sometimes. The same decision will contribute to the stability in the energy sphere”, Walker said.
He also added that the subsidy system will have to soften the price increase for low-income families.
“Of course, during the winter period, when the cold weather comes, the price increase may cause difficulties in some people. As I understand, the government implement a significant subsidy program for low-income families that should compensate high prices to them”, the diplomat said.
