The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus considers it possible to join the World Trade Organization within two-three years.
According to the Belarussian portal BELTA, such statement was issued by the Deputy Director of the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Valerii Kolesnik.
Belarus submitted the application for the entry to WTO long ago, but the negotiation process, unfortunately, lingered, Valerii Kolesnik noted.
“There were moments, when our negotiations halted, - the MFA representative said. – Now we see that we can activate our negotiations. And we count how it is possible to finish them within a reasonable time. This time can be 2-3 years. Our main purpose is to agree such conditions that would meet the national interests”.
It should be reminded that Belarus is currently the only member country of the Eurasian Union, not being the WTO member. In the meantime, the last formal meeting of the working group on the entry of the country to WTO was held back in 2005.
The working group on Belarus’ entry to WTO includes 45 WTO member countries, including Ukraine.
