USA, EU and Canada will closely cooperate with Ukraine for its gradual integration into the European energy market, RBC-Ukraine reports.

The United States of America and the European Union have endorsed the energy reforms in Ukraine and have been against the use of energy resources as the weapon on the political arena, as it was said in the USA and EU joint statement as per results of the Energy Council meeting, hold on May 4, 2016. The co-chairmen of the meeting were US Secretary of State John Kerry and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.

In the final statement the special attention was given to the energy security of the EU, for this the Council participants will search for new suppliers and different routes of supplies of energy resources.

The Council emphasized the significant role of Ukraine in transit of the natural gas to the European Union. USA, EU and Canada intend to cooperate with Ukraine for preparation of the plan in case of occurrence of unexpected circumstances in winter as well as the development of measures for enhancing energy security of the country.

The price adjustment for energy resources, the progress in divestiture of state oil and gas company Naftogaz, the creation of independent regulator and the law on electrical energy market and other energy reforms, conducted in Ukraine, were endorsed by the participants of the meeting. According to them, in Ukraine the process of integration to the European Energy Market is gradually and successfully continuing.

The Council also emphasized that the decisive role on alternative gas supply of the center and southeast of the Europe will be performed by the Southern Gas Corridor, including the construction of Trans-Adriatic pipeline, Bulgaria-Greece pipeline and the construction of terminals of liquefied natural gas in Croatia.

Through “Southern Gas Corridor” it is planned to transport 10 bln cubic meters of Azerbaijan gas from the Caspian region in Europe through Georgia and Turkey.
