U.S. sanctions against Russia will be lifted after settling Ukraine’s issue. Meanwhile, the main task is to stop violence on the Donbass, U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Huntsman said in the interview with St. Petersburg, Correspondent.net reports.
“Many sanctions are imposed not only in the U.S., but also in Europe due to the situation with Ukraine, namely: to come to agreements, which will be fine with both parties, we will obtain a positive result”, the diplomat said, adding that it requires serious efforts in solving debatable issues.
“The main task is to stop violence in the Donbass. Why did the USA interfere with it? Because these are the issues of international law and territorial integrity. They are very important not only for the USA, but also for the global community. We are one of the involved parties. And the parties, which imposed sanctions. And the party, which hopes to find the solution soon. And we will start the period of normalization of relationships”, Huntsman noted.
He reminded that currently, the U.S. and Russia continue to cooperate in some spheres, but not using their maximum opportunities.
“Two great states, which can give each other so much, do not use this potential”, he advised.
As Correspondent.net reported, during a swearing-in ceremony in U.S., John Huntsman said that the relationships between Washington D.C. and Moscow “are the most complicated in the world”. In the meantime, according to him, the restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty will be the first step to improvement of relationships between the U.S. and Russia.
It should be reminded that currently, the U.S. is working on tightening the sanctions against Russia.
