Russia’s Gazprom confirmed the necessity to pay 2.56 billion dollars as per the results of two proceedings with Naftogaz of Ukraine in Stockholm Arbitration Court, according to Gazprom’s response, RIA News reports.
However, the company noted that it does not agree with such court decision and intends to protect its rights by all legal means.
“Gazprom expresses disagreement with this arbitration decision”, the Russian monopolist stated.
The company noted that previously, the court agreed with Naftogaz’s arguments regarding the sharp worsening of Ukrainian economy, which resulted in the reduced demand for gas and Naftogas’ default of obligations on gas extraction.
“However, this argument was not taken into account in regard to Gazprom, which referred to the decline in gas purchase by European clients as the major reason for decreasing transit through Ukraine”, the message says.
Reportedly, Naftogaz suggests allocating 2.56 billion dollars, won from Gazprom, for increasing the internal gas production and energy efficiency.
It should be reminded that on Wednesday, 28 February, it became known that Stockholm arbitration court satisfied Naftogaz’s claims regarding reimbursement for undersupplied gas volumes for transit.
As per Stockholm’s arbitration court decision, Naftogaz obtained compensation, amounting to 4.63 bln dollars for the undersupplied gas volumes for transit. As per the results of two arbitration proceedings in Stockholm, Gazprom will pay 2.56 bln dollars to Naftogaz.
