The net profit of French bank Credit Agricole SA rose by 2.6% in the first quarter of 2015, according to overall results get due to robust investment solutions and efficient assets management, Forbes reports.
Net profit in January-March stood at 784 million euros compared to 764 million euros for a similar period a year ago.
Analysts polled by Bloomberg, in general, had forecasted gains of 759 million euros.
Credit Agricole’s revenue jumped by 8% - to 4.36 billion euros.
In the previous quarter, increasing volatility in the global markets and growth in trading volumes had a positive impact on performance of Credit Agricole, as well as other European and American banks.
Net income gained by the investment division of the bank grew by 22% - 320 million euros, particularly due to high revenue from trading fixed-income securities.
Credit Agricole’s business in the sphere of insurance and asset management proved to be profitable, with revenue grown by 11% - up to 402 million euros.
Net income from retail banking in France in the last quarter totalled 363 million euros, showing an increase compared to 357 million euros a year ago.
Credit Agricole’s net profit in Italy - that of local bank Cariparma, Credit Agricole’s subsidiary, jumped by 70% - 39 million euros.
At the end of March, core equity Tier 1 capital was 10.2% compared to 10.4% as of January 14.
In the past quarter, Credit Agricole transferred 182 million euros to the fund established in the EU to ensure that funding will be available for banks influenced by a crisis, so that to avoid spending of taxpayers' deposits to rescue the finances in the event of a bank crash.
Since the beginning of 2015, the Credit Agricole’s shares rose in value by 26%.
