The external financial dependency of Ukraine does not allow raising social standards with such pace as it should, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groisman said during the government session on Wednesday, August 22, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“It should be emphasized that the state should be independent, including financially. However, if we look at the last 10-12 years of our independence, then we will see that between 2005 and 2013 all Ukrainians were led to absolute dependency on external and internal lenders in the form of the public debt, which is a really large burden for the national economy and for each citizen. Specifically this debt impedes us to quicker raise social standards, better support Ukrainian citizens, quicker strengthen our defense capacity”, Groisman said.
Talking about the public debt, the Prime Minister emphasized that he wants to “get released from these financial shackles”.
“We should do our best so that in the near future, next decade, we get rid of the financial dependency. Our economy should be strong and capable of servicing our debts and reducing them independently”, he emphasized.
