Experts will analyze newly adopted Ukrainian laws
Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland has decided to postpone the meeting of the Steering Committee Ukraine - the European Council, which was held on Wednesday, January 22. This was reported by the Department of Communication of European Council, says Deutsche Welle.
The Steering Committee focuses on criminal justice reform in Ukraine. It consists of representatives of the Ministry of Justice from the Ukrainian side, the Prosecutor General and the presidential administration.
"The laws of 16 January" are to be examined for compliance with democratic standards.
The European Council is skeptical on the words of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Leonid Kozhara. A few days ago at a meeting with foreign diplomats in Kiev Kozhara said that on 16 January laws aimed at a range of standards, existing laws in most European countries and meet generally accepted democratic standards and international practices.

Yahland decided, while experts of the European Council are analyzing controversial laws that "were hastily adopted by the Parliament", to not present a report to the Committee of Ministers of the European Council, the new date of the committee Ukraine - European Council meeting will be known later. "We want to work with the Ukrainian government, however, quite clear that we can not continue to do so as if nothing is happening" - said spokesman for Secretary General of the Council of Europe Daniel Helthen in a commentary to DW.
