According to the financial institutions, it is the effect of a computer virus; they offer to contact the call-centers to raise daily limits for cash withdrawals
The banks in Kyiv begin setting a daily withdrawal limit for ATM cards, as reported by Vesti (Вести).
«A daily withdrawal limit set for payment cards with a magnetic strip, which are used to withdraw cash from accounts through the ATMs other than those of VTB Bank, is 5000 hryvnias for Gold, Platinum, Infinite payment cards, and 2000 hryvnias – for other cards», — as stated by VTB Bank.
«Since the beginning of 2014 ATM skimming scam has spread, cyberattacks have become more often, phishers and crackers attempt to illegally withdraw cash via ATMs of banks located mainly in Kyiv. That is why Alfa-Bank has become one of the first banks to undertake large-scale preventive measures to protect funds lodged in clients’ accounts. Alfa-Bank has lowered a daily withdrawal limit for a certain group of card holders, whose payment cards are considered to be the most risky (about 1,5%), and recommended them to change a PIN-code. However, no other restrictions have been set on purchases of goods and products with payment cards at shopping centers, stores, shopping malls», — according to the Alfa-Bank’s press-office.
Moreover, some banks suggest it was the virus that infected many cash machines in Kyiv, what entailed setting limits by banks trying to secure themselves from risk.
