The Kyiv city administration assures the fare will not increase

According to the information made public by some mass media regarding the anticipated increase in fare for public transportation up to 5 hryvnias – is not proved, the Kyiv municipal authorities report.

«Now the question of raising the fare is not being discussed at all, while it is necessary firstly to make deep analysis of factors that have an impact on the costs of public transportation, to make large-scale inventory and revision of expenses the metro board incurs, with finding a possibility to cut expenditure. Consequently, the process of setting new fares – the cost of riding a bus or metro-rail, should be transparent, based on objective reasons and fully compliant with the Kyivans’ actual ability to pay  in the existing social and economic circumstances», - Vladimir Bondarenko said.

So, the metropolitan authorities were repeatedly asked by private carriers and municipal enterprises whether the ticket prices for public transportation will be revised due to the growth of fuel and electricity prices.

The managerial staff of the Kyiv city administration, in its turn, understanding the demands of the public transport companies is sticking to its position, i.e. the prices should remain unchanged. Currently, all tariff constituents are being examined and calculated, internal reserves the municipal authorities can use to cover expenses are being sought, with measures undertaken to reduce the costs, to finally make reasonable adjustments in the tariff policy, which will be adequate to meet the actual demands.

At the same time, the municipal authorities will make the final decision on increasing the fares after detailed scrutiny of all constitutions and through public discussions.  

Yet, Vladimir Bondarenko calls on: «Do not place information bombs (explosives) in the subway», this raises concerns, not bolstered by the way, of the Kyivans who face many challenges as it is».
