Last month the amount grew by $3,673 billion
According to the preliminary estimates, as of June 1, 2014 the central bank’s international reserves added up to $17,899 billion, the press-service of the NBU reports.
As regards the last month, this volume increased by $3,673 billion (that is 26%). This ensued after disbursement of money by a series of financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund ($3,194 billion), European Union and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development ($888 million), along with placement of foreign sovereign bonds guaranteed by the US government ($1 billion), the issue of government bonds in domestic currency ($255 million) incremented also to the Ukraine’s international reserves.
Additionally, in May the dynamics was significantly influenced by repayments of the sovereign debt in foreign currency guaranteed by the government ($873 million), including those to the International Monetary Fund ($414 million).
In May this year the National Bank of Ukraine conducted transactions in the interbank market, both buying foreign currencies to augment its international reserves ($212 million) and selling to back up payments by the NJSC Naftogaz Ukraine for natural gas supplies ($786 million).
