The ban will cover public places - restaurants and bars
Next week the Kyiv city council is likely to consider a draft law to reduce a number of those drinking and selling alcoholic, low-alcoholic beverages, and beer within the Kyiv city», Vesti Вести reports.
«The UDAR party has initiated this bill, because sale of alcohol at night time increases drinking and disorderly conduct, and it is time to tackle this problem», — said one of the project authors, parliamentarian Oles Maliarevych.
The city council members are going to prohibit sale of any alcoholic drinks (including low-alcoholic beverages and beer) in all trading outlets (except cafes, restaurants and bars) at night — from 22:00 to 8:00 (in stores alcoholic products won’t be cash registered if taken from the shelves they are kept on). It will be prohibited to sell alcohol all day and night at taps, and when public events take place (excluding beer in plastic bottles). But there is more to come. The parliamentarians are going to ban sale of alcohol in kiosks and so called watering holes —outdoor drinking spots that are neither restaurants nor cafes.
If this draft bill is voted for, fiscal bodies will be correspondingly informed, and the local militia will be obliged to control whether alcohol ban is in place, by carrying out spot checks along with the representatives of Kyiv city council.
