P.Poroshenko’s phone conversation with Cristine Lagarde
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has held a phone conversation with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Cristine Lagarde, the Presidential press-office reports.
The President has assured Ukraine is ready to fulfil its obligations undertaken under the IMF’s stand-by arrangements. Regardless of the tough situation the country is facing, the Ukrainian authorities along with the IMF’s mission have worked out further reforms having adjusted them to the existing situation, which should be approved at the IMF Board’s meeting to be held in the second half of August.
When commenting the statement made by Arseny Yatseniuk of quitting his office as Prime-Minister, Petro Poroshenko said the Ukraine’s Constitution and legislation give a clear answer what way to maintain stability in this situation. He noted that within 10 days the parliament will vote an issue of trust in the government. Now, all members of the government continue performing their job duties.
In her turn, Cristine Lagarde, replied: «Your word and devotion matter much to us». She has warned the Ukrainian politicians against populism and superfluous promises on the eve of the election campaign so far as they cannot be made real in the financial and economic situation Ukraine is facing now. Ukraine should move forward following the government program supported by the IMF and regarded to be realistic, said Managing Director of the IMF.
