Every fifth bank incurs losses
On the whole, summarizing the results for the 1st half of 2014, all 35 Ukrainian banks including 173 banks registered and issued a banking license suffered losses, LIGABisnesInform (ЛIГАБiзнесIнформ) reports citing the NBU’s data.
All in all, in the 1st half of 2014 the losses made by unprofitable banks totalled UAH 5,358 billion. The largest losses fell on the subsidiaries of foreign banks in Ukraine – Raiffeisen Bank Aval (1,003 billion hryvnias), OTP Bank (995,311 billion hryvnias), as well as troubled bank Pivdenkombank (888,549 billion hryvnias).
The highest profit-making banks in the first half of a year were two subsidiaries of Russian banks – VTB Bank (1,026 billion hryvnias), Prominvestbank (874,621 million hryvnias), as well as an American Citibank NA subsidiary – Citibank (803,625 million hryvnias).
