58 out of 115 mines suspend work
Nowadays, Ukraine is ranked the second in the world in terms of coal mining. However, in the near future the export of fossil fuel might be less as far as the domestic market lacks coal, what has ensued after the decrease in coal output and bottlenecks in rail transportation due to military actions in the coal mining region, RBK-Ukraine reports.
On Wednesday, the government announced it would most probably impose the state of emergency in the fuel and energy sector and shutdown a few electric power stations. Energy industry of Ukraine gets its 40% of energy from coal.
«An issue of restricting coal exports has been discussed by the Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers as one of the variants of solving the problem of fossil fuel deficit that has arisen due to military actions», - said Head of the Ukraine’s Independent Trade Union of Miners Mykhailo Volynets.
Coal output in Ukraine fell by 22% up to 5.58 million tons on a year-over-year basis, according to the data from the Ukraine’s Independent Trade Union of Miners.
«Imposing the state of emergency in the fuel and energy sector will allow shutdown non-priority thermal power plants so that to raise work load of other thermal power plants», - said Andry Favorov, Managing Director of Energetic Resources of Ukraine company.
The coal extraction was suspended in 58 out of 114 mines of Ukraine due to military actions.
From a coal exporter, Ukraine can turn into a country importing fuel from Poland, Russia, Indonesia, the Republic of South Africa, Columbia and other countries.
