Two foreign currency auctions held last week
The second foreign-exchange intervention with the fixed rate for the last week was made on October 10, 2014, the press-office of the NBU reports.
The sale of currency was undertaken to meet the demands of banks in foreign currency, what, in its turn, had been spurred by clients’ demands. Regarding the results of the intervention, the amount of foreign currency sold to banks at rate of 12.95 hryvnias per US dollar amounts to $199.97 million. 56 banks participated in the auction.
It is worth noting that an action committee of the NBU continuously monitors whether the foreign currency bought by banks from the NBU is used as intended. Pursuant to the norms of the relevant regulations, the currency bought at intervention price should be used solely for intended use.
