Stress-test results
Some 66 billion hryvnias are required for recapitalization of the 35 biggest banks of Ukraine, said Chair of the NBU Valeria Gontariova, the Ministry of Finance reports.
‘Firstly, we conducted a stress-test of the top 15 banks, in terms of capital; afterwards we checked the next 20 biggest banks. The results show that the recapitalization amount the banks require equalls 56 billion hryvnias and 10 billion hryvnias, respectively”, - said Gontariova.
As has been already reported, Ukraine might undertake nationalization of systemically important banks if existing shareholders fail to recapitalize them.
Besides, the National Bank is planning to conduct one more stress-test of the banking system in 2015.
On Tuesday, Valeria Gontariova mentioned that 35-40 banks the NBU invites to participate in its meetings make up 80% of the banking system of Ukraine. She is of the opinion that 11 out of 26 banks expelled from the banking system were involved “in purely criminal operations”.
