Starting April 1, the CMU’s resolution passed on 31.03.1995, No. 231, becomes null and void, which, in particular, envisages the procedure for entering the child’s personal data into the travel parents’ passports, the press-office of the National Migration Service reports.
As far as is known, starting from January 1, 2015, travel passports of a new design were introduced in Ukraine. According to the new rules, the travel passport can be issued starting from birth onward. Thus, entering the child’s data into the parents’ passport is not necessary. Until April 1, the child’s photo was glued on the parents’ travel passport of a previous design; this requirement becomes invalid after April 1.
It should be noted that all documents issued before this date will remain in force until the document expires. So, a child can travel on the parent’s passport if listed in it, until the document expires.
If the child’s data is not entered into the travel passport of either parent, just after April 1, the child should have one’s own passport of a new design to travel abroad. Moreover, children under 16 are exempt from paying the stamp duty, while fingerprints for a biometric travel passport are captured from children over the age of 12, upon the parental consent.
In addition, unless the relevant changes to the legislation are enacted, there is still the possibility to get a child’s travel document. However, you should remember that not all countries accept the said document, in particular, the Czech Republic, Portugal, and Spain. Thus, before travelling with a child to any country, you should inquire about acceptable child’s travel documents at the consulate.
