In I quarter 2013 the number of ATMs increased by 2%
During the first quarter of 2013 the number of ATMs grew by 2% (from early 2009 - by 32%) - up to 36 thousand 860, as stated in a news release by the Independent Association of Banks of Ukraine.
The number of POS terminals grew by 7.3% (from early 2009 - 69%) and as at 01.04.2013 was 143.7 thousand.
Overall, as at the beginning of April 2013 every 10 thousand active payment cards accounted for 11 ATMs and 9 bank terminals and 43 trading terminals. Number of point of sale terminals per 1 trade and service enterprise increased from 1.14 at the beginning of 2013 to 1.63 as at 01.04.2013.
In the way of issuing payment cards the trend is also positive. In Q1 2013 the number of cardholders grew by 2.2% and as at 01.04.2013 amounted to 45.3 million.
Number of active payment cards (ie cards, which for the last 3 months of debit transactions carried out) from the beginning of the year grew by 1.3 pp and reached 48.7% of the total number of cards.
Total volume of transactions with payment cards for I quarter 2013 amounted to 189.9 billion UAH. The share of cash transactions within the total volume of card transactions fell by 6 pp compared with the beginning of year (from 88% down to 82%) and the average volume of cashless payments using payment cards increased by 5% (from 263 UAH to 277 UAH).
Even though credit cards in Ukraine are issued by a significant number of institutions (141 banks), leaders in this segment remain traditional. Compared to the beginning the year, the total share of three largest issuers (PJSC CB PRYVATBANK, JSC Raiffeisen Bank Aval and JSC OSHCHADBANK) in the overall active payment cards has not changed and at the beginning of April 2013 made 67%; the share of 10 largest issuers increased from 80.3% to 80.5%.
