The Committee relies on enhancing citizens’ safety.
The Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement of the Parliament recommends that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should approve the draft law №2270 on Introduction of Amendments to the Law on Security Activities, RBC-Ukraine reports.
Thus, it is proposed by the document to grant the right to acquisition, storage and use of short-barreled semi-automatic rifled firearms to the entities of security activities, which use their own emergency transport and cooperate on enforcement of public order with internal affairs authorities by joint patrolling. The specific types of such firearms are determined by the Cabinet of Minister of Ukraine.
“During the discussion committee members turned their attention to the fact that the right to acquisition, storage and use of firearms will be granted exclusively to entities of security activities, providing security to high-security objects of right of state ownership and providing security services with engagement of their own emergency transport and use of central surveillance points”, the message says.
It is noted that granting such right to private security firms during property protection and during joint patrolling with law enforcement officials as the legitimate method of protection from criminal offences can improve the security state of protection and security object of individuals during enforcement of public order.
It should be reminded that in November 2015 the European Commission amid terrorist attacks in Paris has started preparing a new directive concerning firearms. The directive will describe the general rules for storage and bearing firearms.
