NBU Governor compared the situation in Ukraine with CIS countries.
The National Bank of Ukraine does not see any grounds for strengthening the hryvnia, as it was reported by NBU Governor Valeria Hontareva, Correspondent.net reports.
“We have flexible exchange rate, and each month, after the meeting of monetary committee I tell what will be… when I say that we have current account deficit… this means that the rate has no possibility to strengthen and risks increase. But I can say that CIS countries’ situation is worse, because we are under the umbrella”, she said.
Hontareva explained that the devaluation in January does not have fundamental and economic nature.
“The country had a rest for 10 days and then people went and bought currency after holidays”, explained the regulator’s chief.
She explained that fundamental factors, influencing the current account of payment balance, are devaluation of currencies of partner countries, full trade embargo of Russia and RF ban of transit to third countries for Ukraine.
