The Ukrainian authorities consider for the post of the Prime Minister not only the Head of Ministry of Finance Natalia Yaresko, but also the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groisman, Financial Times reports.
According to the edition, Yaresko received the proposal to head government more than 10 days ago from representatives of President Petro Poroshenko and Acting Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk.
She was proposed the endorsement in the Verkhovna Rada from the Block of Petro Poroshenko and People’s Front, the persons, who are aware of the course of negotiations, said to the edition.
According to FT data, last week Yaresko was headhunting for her future Cabinet of Ministers and drawing up the program of its activities.
However, as it is said in the article, negotiations reached a dead end at the end of previous week, that’s why Poroshenko and Yatseniuk started considering the alternative – Groisman as the candidate.
FT emphasizes that Yaresko is highly appraised by investors and international partners of Ukraine, who consider the technocratic government, headed by her, as the best guarantee of continuing structural reforms and fight with corruption.
They consider the Cabinet of Ministers, headed by Groisman, to be weaker in terms of resisting pressure from powerful corporate interests, including oligarchs, as well as Poroshenko.
In addition, as the sources of the edition say, Yaresko will unlikely agree to work in Groisman’s government that will pose threat to the support from lenders, in particular, the International Monetary Fund.
FT names the pre-term elections to the Rada as the “third scenario”, but it notes that it is hardly probable: the declaration of will is planned to happen not earlier than autumn – this destines Ukraine for six months of political uncertainty and disrupts efforts on implementation of reforms.
In addition, the political insiders told the edition that Poroshenko and Yatseniuk want to avoid pre-term elections after the sharp reduction of support of them and their parties. They fear that the leader of Batkivshchyna Julia Tymoshenko and the chairman of Odessa RGD Mikhail Saakashvilli will receive a lot of votes.
Previously the Ukrainian truth wrote that Yaresko agreed to head “the government of technocrats” provided that she proposes people to the team and is already negotiating with those, whom she sees in new government.
On February 16, the Verkhovna Rada could not dismiss the Cabinet of Ministers, though earlier on this day it assessed the work of government, headed by the Prime-Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk unsatisfactory.
This led to the political crisis in the country: Batkivshchyna and Samopomich withdrew from the parliamentary coalition, leaving the Block of Petro Poroshenko and People’s Front. The deputies differ in opinions whether the coalition exists now.
