Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius hopes for the prompt visa liberalization for Ukraine from the European Union, UNIAN reports.

In particular, it is expected in the near future that the European Commission will transfer to the European Union the package of legislative acts regarding cancellation of visas for Ukrainian citizens for short-term trips to Schengen countries.

According to Linkevičius, claims about multiple obstacles on the way to cancellation of visas for Ukraine are abstract in fact.

“When we speak about their „homework“, concrete tasks, which Ukrainians should perform, - they are performed and implemented. So what are the reasons for impediments? To my mind, there are neither moral, nor legitimate grounds for stopping or complication of this already complicated process“, said Lithuanian diplomat.

According to him, this also refers to Georgia. „It was not easy for Ukraine and Georgia to fulfill all those requirements, which are required for this. They did it. Now we should implement what we decided. Many EU representatives noticed it, that’s why I hope that this process will be consistent. We will not pose new impediments on this way or create new rules. This is the endless process, nobody’s perfect, but these countries fulfilled what these countries needed from them. Now we should do our part of work, and I hope that before summer we should obtain a visa-free regime“, Linas Linkevičius stated.

As UNIAN reported, on March 17 President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker noted that in April the European Commission is ready to make a proposal regarding the visa liberalization with Ukraine.

On March 23, the Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski informed that in the first half of year the European Union and the European Parliament will consider Ukraine’s progress in fulfillment of necessary requirements for introduction of the visa-free regime between Ukraine and the European Union.
