According to Johannes Hahn, the General Prosecutor should be oriented at reforms and have legal education, RBC-Ukraine reports.
The European Commission expects for the appointment of the General Prosecutor of Ukraine with legal education, Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn said during the briefing on Thursday, April 21.
“Now the General Prosecutor, oriented at reforms, should be appointed. The General Prosecutor should be knowledgeable and have legal education”, - Hahn said.
Hahn emphasized that first steps on liberalization of visa-free regime will be performed, as Ukraine made first steps in fighting with corruption, however the General Prosecutor should be appointed and continue reforms.
“We will allocate 600 mln, but only in case, if the remaining conditions are fulfilled”, he added.
It should be reminded that previously the draft law, the norms of which allow to appoint the leader of parliamentarian faction “Petro Poroshenko’s Block” Yurii Lutsenko for the position of the General Prosecutor of Ukraine, was brought into the Verkhovna Rada again.
In addition, yesterday, April 20, the parliamentarian Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement recommended the Verkhovna Rada to pass the draft law, which will allow the future general prosecutor not to have legal education.
