Germany will allocate Ukraine EUR 19 mln for rectification of consequences of the Chernobyl accident, Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety Barbara Hendriks said in the interview to Nordwest-Zeitung, published on Friday, April 22, DW reports.
“We have already invested about 120 million euros. In addition, in the near future we will invest about 19 million euros in the project… If we manage to cover the nuclear unit with a new containment dome, the nuclear reactor will not pose any direct threat”, - she said.
As it is reported, Hendriks criticized the use of nuclear energy, which, according to her, is the “cul-de-sac technology with costly end”.
As it is noted, except for Germany 44 states provide financial aid to Ukraine.
“Partially, the funds are deposited in the creation of a new sarcophagus, which will have to fully isolate the destroyed fourth nuclear unit”, the message says.
