The deputies have endorsed the reform of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Correpondent.net reports.
The Verkhovna Rada has passed the reform of the General Prosecutor’s Office, having permitted to appoint the person without legal education as the Head of Department.
The draft law was endorsed by 258 people’s deputies.
In compliance with the approved draft law the candidate for the post of the general prosecutor should have higher education, not necessarily legal, and work experience in legal sphere or legislative and/or law enforcement body not less than five years, to have a good command of the national language, to have high moral business and professional qualities and organizational skills.
The law also introduces amendments to the procedure of default judgment. According to the law, special (default) pretrial investigation and judicial examination will extend over the persons, who are internationally wanted or hide out from investigation agencies or court for more than 6 months for avoidance of criminal liability and/or regarding which there are actual data that they are beyond the Ukraine’s borders, on the temporarily occupied territory or in ATO zone. This norm will be regularized in legislation by April 1, 2017.
