The Board of the National Bank of Ukraine passed the resolution on declaring PJSC ”Smartbank” insolvent due to its nontransparent ownership structure, according to the Board Resolution of the National Bank № 20/БТ dated 24 May 2016, the regulator’s press-office reports.
“Since May 2014 the National Bank of Ukraine pointed out to the bank and its shareholders that the ownership structure of OJSC “Smartbank” is not transparent”, the message says.
As noted, after multiple attempts to approve the acquisition of major shareholding in the bank by different persons within 2015-2016, the ownership structure of OPJSC “Smartbank” was not brought into compliance with transparency requirements, established by the regulator.
NBU noted that the owner of major shareholding at the bank changed many times without approval from the National Bank. The relevant corrective measures were applied to the owners of major shareholding for such violation.
“PJSC “Smartbank” became the third bank, declared insolvent on the grounds of non-transparency of ownership structure”, the regulator reports.
“The deposits of less than 100 individuals were placed in the bank. The load on the Individual Deposit Insurance Fund will not exceed UAH 100 thousand”, the press-office reports.
In November 2014 PJSC “Bank Market Technologies” reportedly changed its name to PJSC “Smartbank”.
