NBU has already diagnosed 20 structures and has started diagnosing other 40 financial institutions, UBR reports.

The National Bank has completed diagnosing 20 largest banks of the country and launched stress-testing of the following 40 banks, Deputy NBU Governor Katerina Rozhkova said.

She noted that three-year programs of capital increase have been signed with 18 tested banks. She explained the statement of NBU management about the cleanup of banking system.

“For today, these 18 banks make up 86% of the banking system, that’s why their capital increase is the cleanup process for us”, Rozhkova noted.

The Independent Association of Banks of Ukraine specified that 78 banks – 30% of our banking system – were declared insolvent for last two years.

“Amid crisis the financial standing of corporate enterprises significantly worsened and their abilities to perform their obligations also significantly decreased. Unfortunately, we cannot use the word combination “sustainable” economic growth”, Chairman of NABU Board Roman Shpak explained one of reasons of the problems of banking system.

And Katerina Rozhkova informed that the remaining Ukrainian banks of the NBU will be diagnosed until mid-2017.

However, it cannot be ruled out that after their testing it will be necessary again to inspect large banks, in which the situation can worsen due to delay in lending.

“If banks do not lend, they will not be able to receive profit and “eat through” capital, and if 2016 does not become critical for lending, then the banking system will face the problem of low capitalization again”, Rozhkova assures.
