The Ukrainian party renewed payments for spent nuclear fuel, Correspondent.net reports.

Ukraine and Russia concluded the contract for supplies and enrichment of uranium raw material in 2016, Director of International Uranium Enrichment Center Gleb Efremov said.

The Ukrainian state concern “Nuclear Fuel” will forward its uranium to Russia for enrichment and further production of nuclear fuel for their nuclear stations.

“The contract is approved by the shareholders’ meeting, held on July 31, 2016, which means its entry into force. Now we proceed to the phase of contract fulfillment and expect from our Ukrainian partners the shipping note to our address of raw material concentrate”, Efremov told.

The date for uranium supplies is not exactly fixed yet, but under the contract terms it should take place in the fourth quarter of this year.

The volume of supply of services on uranium enrichment to Ukrainian party remained at the same level – 60 thousand SWU (separate work unit).

It is noted that for four years the volume of commercial supplies of enriched uranium for Ukrainian NPS exceeded 25 million dollars.

In addition, according to RIA News, Ukraine transferred money for returning spent nuclear fuel of their NPS to Russia for storage and processing.

“Everything has renewed now. The Ukrainian party has started paying almost a month and a half ago. The only thing is that the timing shifted”, - the interlocutor said.

He added that, in spite of the delay, both parties will try to fulfill their annual plan on the import of Ukrainian fuel to the territory of Russia.

In this April Russia stated that US fuel is not suitable for nuclear stations of Ukraine and its use is dangerous.
