The cooperation is planned in four areas.
Ukraine and Kazakhstan agreed to cooperate in four areas of nuclear energy sphere, Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Ihor Nasalyk told.
“Firstly, Ukraine will consider the possibility of participation in construction of the plant for production of fuel element in Kazakhstan. Secondly, Kazakhstan is ready to create joint enterprise for extraction of uranium ore in its country”, - Nasalyk stated.
The Minister noted that the prime cost of uranium ore is about 30 USD per ton in Kazakhstan, 129 USD – in Ukraine.
“And we purchase thousand and half tons. The profit is evident”, the Minister of Energy emphasized.
In addition, according to him, Kazakhstan expressed readiness to provide Ukraine with their leaching technologies (extraction of ore and minerals with chemical solvents through boreholes, drilled in deposit), which are one of the most progressive in the world.
“At the meeting Kazakhstan confirmed their readiness to develop extraction in Ukraine not by chessboard method, but by the method of leaching surface”, Nasalyk noted.
One more area of cooperation is the Kazakhstan’s purchase of Ukrainian ion exchange resin (used while processing radioactive waste, clearing of cooling water of reactors and mixed bed filters), totaling 700 tons.
“On September 17-18 Kazatomprom representatives will arrive to Ukraine and we will conclude the relevant memorandum. And then there will be a meeting of two presidents, and more likely, the memorandum will become the state obligations and responsibilities of two parties”, the minister announced.
