The European Parliament registered the draft legislative resolution on inclusion of Ukraine into the list of third countries, for the citizens of which the visa requirements are abolished.

The report of Deputy Maria Gabriel, which should be approved by the Committee on Civil Liberties, was taken as the basis for the draft document.

In the explanatory note to the document the reporter reminds that European Commission’s suggestions consist in introduction of additions to EU regulations № 539/2001 and transferring Ukraine to Annex II, which contains the list of third countries, for the citizens of which the requirement to obtain visa is excluded for crossing the external borders of member countries.

“The abolishment of visas for Ukrainian citizens, which are the owners of biometrical passports, will mark the concrete achievement, coming from mutual ambitions as well as dedication, demonstrated by Ukrainians for the sake of peace, stability and the course of European reforms of the country”, as reported in the draft resolution.

In addition, it is noted that the European Parliament voting in favor of suggestions of the European Commission will confirm that each country, complying with criteria, can obtain visa liberalization.

“The abolishment of visa regime for Ukraine will become the confirmation of consistency of the European course, which is based on the fundamental rights of supremacy of law and international law, including the circumstances of illegal annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia”, as declared in the resolution.
