More than 500 Danish citizens, who will be checked for involvement in tax crimes, are featured in documents, Correspondent reports.
Denmark bought data about their citizens, whose names are mentioned in the so-called “Panama files”. 6 mln krones (810 ths euros) are paid to the anonymous source for data about firms–“mailboxes”, belonging to Danish taxpayers, the Denmark’s tax authority informed.
The authority’s representative noted that the amount and the quality of obtained information meet the expectations and now these materials will be studied in detail.
Previously the Denmark’s government announced that the purchase of these data is required for checking suspicions in respect to assumed tax evaders. The names of 500-600 Danish citizens are mentioned in the documents.
In April, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) published the material about offshores, which was based on the documents of the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, assisting huge number of clients to evade taxes.
Persons from the team of President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, former UK Prime Minister David Cameron, other politicians and public persons were featured in ICIJ investigation.
