The Ministry of Infrastructure is working on lowering the port tariffs and dues, and plans to double reduce them, Economic Truth reports.
“Now we observe the decline in cargo turnover through Ukrainian ports. And, although the ore export increased, which rose in price on the stock exchange, the decline in cargo turnover through Ukrainian ports is still happening”, the minister said.
According to Omelyan, the decline is caused by the uncompetitive tariff policy within the context of tariffs and dues.
“We lose to Black Sea Basin Countries twice, Mediterranean Basin – sometimes three times, global – sometimes four times. It results merely in reduction of cargo flow”, Omelyan said.
According to him, currently the ministry is working on the reduction of tariffs.
“At least, it seems that there is the political will of the President as well as the Prime Minister, which is very important. In November, we will get approved the new methodology of port tariffs and dues, which stipulates their double reduction at least. After that, I hope it will be implemented and I hope we will be able to adequately compete with price”, the minister added.
