Gontareva accused populist politicians in undermining “fragile macroeconomic stability”.
Delaying pause in the international financial support of Ukraine will lead to the loss of reserves and create risks for macroeconomic stability, Chairwoman of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeria Gontareva said.
“If we continue cooperation (with IMF) at the beginning of the next year, that is not so awful, but if we do not do it… then I want that everybody understands: if we have reserves of USD 15.5 bln today, then we will start losing reserves each day, - Gontareva said at NBU Council meeting. – And we will start losing that fragile stability each day, when we live more than a year and a half in the stable macroeconomic situation”.
She explained that next year NBU forecasts the negative balance of the current account of balance of payments of USD 2.9 bln. In addition, the country will need to pay more than USD 2.5 bln for servicing debts and amortize USD 1 bln of the first tranche of stand-by loan, obtained from IMF in 2014. Gontareva reminded that currently, according to the baseline forecast, it is expected to obtain four tranches, amounting to USD 5.4 bln, from IMF in 2017.
“That is why playing with populism and political insinuations undermine our state and macroeconomic stability”, NBU Chairwoman emphasized.
She accentuated the destructive position of Leader of Batkivshchyna Block Yulia Tymoshenko, accusing her again of providing fictitious figures.
“It is already totally out of line, and we hope that these politicians will bear liability under the law for their fraud actions and activities, associated with undermining our fragile macroeconomic stability”, Gontareva said.
As Correspondent.net reported, the previous day, IMF denied November tranche to Ukraine. The question of allocation of tranche to Ukraine is not included into the agenda of IMF Board of Governors until December.
It should be reminded that as per results of IMF Mission in Kyiv from 3 to 17 November, the Fund averred failure in the fight against corruption in Ukraine.
