The pharmaceutical company Teva (Israel) will pay the fine of USD 519 mln for dropping charges with bribing officials in several countries, US Secretary of Justice said, liga.net reports quoting Reuters.
As reported, the company paid millions of dollars of bribes in Mexico, Russia and Ukraine for promoting its products.
The company will pay the fine, amounting to USD 283 mln, within the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, on the charge of US Department of Justice as well as USD 236 million of the fine on profit and interests for settlement of civil case, which is considered by US Securities and Exchange Commission.
Teva also confessed that its management gave bribes to Ukrainian authorities to get permission for sale of pharmaceuticals.
US Department of Justice notes that the bribery had place more than 10 years ago.
According to US Securities and Exchange Commission, the Teva’s corruption scheme generated more than USD 200 mln of illegal profit for the company.
