The Individuals’ Deposit Insurance Fund does not plan to increase the guaranteed amount of reimbursement of deposits of the people in the near future (currently, it is UAH 200 ths), Fund’s Deputy Managing Director told journalists, according to Finance.UA materials.
«Currently, we are not considering the increase of the guaranteed amount of reimbursement», he said.
Olenchik explained that currently 97% of bank deposits are state-guaranteed.
He also reminded that the Fund’s arrears to the state is UAH 70 billion.
As a result, the increase of the guaranteed amount will make this load bigger.
He added that this decision is unlikely to be expected this year.
«This decision needs to be taken any time soon. But, it is more likely the question of 2018-2019. I think that if the guaranteed amount increases, then it will not be rapidly», the deputy director added.
Last time, the Deposit Insurance Fund increased the amount of reimbursement to depositors of liquidated banks from UAH 150 ths to UAH 200 ths.
Before that, in November 2008, the amount of reimbursement increased from UAH 100 ths to UAH 150 ths.
As reported, the Individuals’ Deposit Insurance Fund was created in February 1999 and is the state specialized institution, which performs the functions of government control over individuals’ deposit insurance.
