Ukraine receives the nuclear fuel from Sweden.
Ukraine purchases the nuclear fuel Westinghouse from Sweden, and the bankruptcy refers to the US assets of the company.
The beginning of the bankruptcy procedure of US corporation Westinghouse Electric will not anyhow affect the cooperation of this company with the National Atomic Energy-Generating Company (NAEC) Energoatom, RBC-Ukraine reports quoting the representatives of Westinghouse company.
“It more likely refers to US assets, Ukraine supplies Westinghouse fuel from Sweden. Here, there should not be any problem”, the interlocutor of the edition from US company said.
No official comments regarding the bankruptcy of Westinghouse Electric were promulgated yet; the company management promised to present the company’s position later.
Meanwhile, according to RBC-Ukraine, the press office of Energoatom does not officially comment the bankruptcy of US corporation. The company specified that the “fuel supplies are made regularly and without fail”.
“We have no operating problems, and we hope that Westinghouse will fulfill its obligations”, the press office of Energoatom assures.
In 2016, five lots of the nuclear fuel Westinghouse were supplied to Ukrainian NPS. Currently, this fuel is used on three energy units - №2 and №3 of the South Ukrainian NPS, №5 of Zaporizhzhya NPS.
As Correspondent.net reports, Westinghouse appealed to the court for protection from lenders under the bankruptcy procedure. The company had problems due to large overconsumption on two NPS – in Georgia and South Carolina.
Westinghouse is one of the supplies of the nuclear fuel for NPS in Ukraine. On March 3, it became known that Westinghouse will deliver the next lot of fuel to Kyiv.
