The regulator detected problems with state banks.
The main risks for the stability of the banking system of Ukraine lie in the low operational efficiency of state banks and low quality of their assets, according to the review on the banking sector, prepared by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), Segodnia reports.
“Speeding up the reforming of state banks is significantly required”, according to NBU.
The regulator suggests renewing the management of banks and forming independent supervisory boards.
“The low operational efficiency of state banks is the key challenge in the banking sector. The largest state banks require dramatic changes of business models and development of long-term strategies of development”, according to the National Bank.
It should be reminded that after the nationalization of PrivatBank in December 2016, the half of the banking sector of Ukraine is under the control of the state. NBU repeatedly notes that this situation should be rectified through the privatization of PrivatBank, as soon as the sale of this financial institution becomes possible.
