Demographic register to be created
Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at the meeting of September 11 approved a plan to introduce biometric passports, the press service of the Cabinet informs.
To implement this plan a uniform base will be set up – a demographic registry. For integrated resolution of the issue the Ukrainian government has allocated 793.3 million UAH by 2016.
New passports will contain a contactless chip with personal information. Foreign passport of the new type will be more traditional in the form of booklets. In the right flyleaf of the document will have contactless electronic medium.
According to the law and international standards, biometric passports will have two kinds of data, principal and additional. Principal data include person’s details – digitized photo, digitized signature, full name, birth date. Additional – finger prints.
Internal passports will be formalized since birth. The terms for processing are the same - up to 30 days. Internal passport, which was formerly of unlimited duration, in the future will be issued for 10 years. Exchanging the «old» passport for a new one - biometric - will be voluntary. According to preliminary estimates, the cost of a new passport will be 350 UAH.
