The gas prices for the population should increase by 17-19%.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) stated that Ukrainian government should observe the norms of the current order, stipulating the methods of gas cost estimation for the population, RBC-Ukraine reports.
“As this question (gas price) is one of the points of the memorandum of Ukraine with IMF and is stipulated in the current governmental order, we find it necessary to observe the fulfilment of agreements”, - the source reported in IMF’s headquarters in Washington D.C.
According to the source, IMF is aware that the Cabinet of Ministers wants to change the mechanism of gas cost estimation, in order not to allow its increase from October 1. IMF conducts consultations with Ukrainian officials on this matter; however, no decision was taken on it.
It should be noted that as per the current methodology, the average price of fuel in German hub NCG for 12 months is used when estimating the gas cost for Ukraine. It is subject to adjustment once per half a year – April 1 and October 1 – if the gas price, set for Ukrainian consumers, deviates from the import one by 10%. Following these methods, the gas cost for the population should increase by 17-19% from October 1.
