Car imports to Ukraine grew substantially over the summer
Analytical data from the customs of the Ministry of revenue and duties of Ukraine show a steady increase in volumes of imported cars, peaking in August.
In the last month of summer Ukraine imported about 47 thousand vehicles (worth almost half a billion dollars), almost twice the last year's figures. Last August Ukraine imported 26.6 thousand cars.
New cars constitute the largest portion of vehicles imported in August: 24.2 thousand, which is more than half of the total imports.
Second large group of vehicles is used (second-hand) trucks, imported in the amount of nearly 19 thousand, twice as much as August 2012 (a little over 9.5 thousand).
Overall, during summer months more than 100 thousand vehicles worth over $1.2 billion were imported to Ukraine.
Experts at the Ministry of revenues predict that as early as September car imports will drop significantly, as the summer rush was due to dealers intensively preparing for the introduction of the so-called "utilization fee" on 1 September.
