The International Monetary Fund expects that Ukraine cancel the contradictory regulation on the appeal to the Law on Supreme Anticorruption Court, according to the statement of IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, published as per the results of recent phone conversation with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, ET reports.

“We agreed that currently, it is important so that the parliament quickly approves the additional presidential draft law for formal creation of the court, as well as necessary amendments for renewing the requirement that the court hears all cases, which are in its jurisdiction, including the appeals on the decision of the court of first instance, as it was in the draft law, approved in the first reading”, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde stated.

On June 7, the Verkhovna Rada approved the law №7440 about the Supreme Anticorruption Court of Ukraine. 315 people’s deputies voted for. President Petro Poroshenko signed it on June 11.

There appeared the amendment to the published law, which stipulates that the appeals on NABU cases, which the courts are hearing now, will be considered in the courts of the general jurisdiction, but not in the Anticorruption Court.

Transparency International noted that in such case, the appeal will happen, bypassing the Anticorruption Court and bypassing the preliminary agreements with international partners.

On June 14, the Anti-Corruption Center specified top corrupt officials, who can get away due to the amendment.

The Venice Commission of the Council of Europe did not insist on including the contradictory regulation in the law on Anticorruption Court. The regulation was that the cases against corrupt officials, who are already sent to court, were not subject to appeal in the newly created Supreme Anticorruption Court (SAC).
