President Petro Poroshenko discussed with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo the question regarding the release of annexed Crimea, Russian aggression and Ukraine’s discharge of liabilities under the program of the International Monetary Fund, the President’s press office reports.
It is noted that they had a phone conversation on Tuesday.
Reportedly, during their conversation, they agreed the questions of countering Russian aggression and restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine, including the results of the meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump and President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
Thus, Pompeo promised that the United States will not recognize the annexation of the Crimea, and the sanctions against Russia will grow, until the Kremlin conducts the belligerent policy and restores the territorial integrity of Ukraine, including the occupied peninsula.
In addition, the parties discussed the question of coordinating actions for promoting the initiative of deploying U.N. peacemakers on the total territory of occupied Donbass, including the regain of control over the uncontrolled section of the border between Ukraine and Russia.
Poroshenko’s press office also added that during the conversation they also discussed the release of political prisoners.
In its turn, U.S. Department of State noted that Pompeo welcomed the adoption of laws on the corruption court in Ukraine and the national security as well as encouraged fulfilling IMF requirements.
