U.S. Congress adopted the law on creating the agency, which will guarantee protection of the country’s infrastructure from digital threats.
U.S. Department of Homeland Security will create the standalone agency on cybersecurity and infrastructure security, according to the disseminated message of the ministry on Wednesday, November 14, Correspodent.net reports.
It is noted that the law on creating the cybersecurity agency was adopted by U.S. Congress House of Representatives.
“The picture of cyberthreats is constantly changing and we need to guarantee that we occupy the due position for protecting U.S. infrastructure from digital and physical threats”, as provided in the released speech of Secretary of the Department Kirsten Nilsen.
The document was previously approved by the upper chamber; now, it will be submitted for signature by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The topic of cyberthreats and their countering came into the picture in U.S. after Russia was accused of interfering with presidential elections in 2016. In the lead-up to Congress elections in November 2018, the law enforcement agencies spoke about the threats of hacking the infrastructure of voting systems in U.S. or data thefts of registered voters. However, immediately before the elections, Nilsen reported absence of signs of any attempts to do it from foreign countries.
