At the emergency refugee summit the EU leaders have agreed to allocate at least €1 billion to help Syrian refugees through UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency) and the United Nations World Food Programme, European Council President Donald Tusk has announced, RBC-Ukraine (РБК-Украина) reports.
«Today, we are actively insisting on increasing aid to Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. Additional assistance will be provided in exchange for strengthening cooperation. 1 billion euros will be mobilized to help refugees in the region. The money pledged by EU leaders will go to the UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency) and the United Nations World Food Programme», Tusk said.
He also admitted that if the migration problem is solved, then Schengen zone will be “alive only theoretically”.
In addition, he noted that the new flux of migrants is expected in Europe.
