The subject of discussion can be the change of strategy of organization amid the sharp drop of world oil prices.
The representatives of several countries – members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) have applied to the cartel management with request to convene emergency summit, RBC-Ukraine reports quoting the Nigeria’s Oil Minister and current president of the OPEC conference Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu.
“Several countries, I don’t want to call them”, said Kachikwu in response to the request to specify countries, asking for emergency meeting.
At the Energy Conference in Abu-Dhabi the Nigerian minister explained to journalists that during emergency meeting at the highest level, which may happen in March 2016, it is planned to discuss the question of possible change of OPEC policy.
At the last regular OPEC meeting, which was held on December 4, the organization did not announce about changing quota for OPEC cumulative production against expectations. Currently the cumulative quota on OPEC cumulative production makes up 30 mln barrels per day, not having changed since 2011.
The cost of the barrel from the so-called OPEC basket, during estimation of which the prices for thirteen oil grades, exported by cartel member countries, are being used, makes up USD 27.07
During today’s trading on ICE Exchange the futures quote for Brent oil with delivery in March 2016 has declined below $31. At the minimum the cost of barrel has dropped to $30.77, which is by 2.62% lower than the closure of yesterday trading.
In World Oil Outlook (WOO), published in late December 2015, it is forecast that within the medium term the price of barrel of oil from OPEC basket will increase by about $5 per year, and in 2020 its nominal price will increase to $80.
As of January 6, 2015, the price of OPEC oil basket dropped to $29.71 per barrel.
